Desk Etiquette & Breaks
Desk Etiquette
- Personal Technology (cell phones and personal laptops) cannot be used at the front desk. If you need to make/take a call or send a text, inform your coworkers that you will need to step away from the desk for a moment. If not an emergency, this should only be a quick (less than 1 min) step away from the desk.
- The front desk computers can be used for schoolwork and surfing.
- Books can be read at the front desk. Please just be sure to maintain an awareness of patrons in need of assistance.
- Food should not be consumed at the Front Desks or the desks directly behind. Food can be consumed in the break room, outside or elsewhere in the library.
- Drinks in a covered container are allowed at the desk.
- Be considerate of your volume and topic choices when visiting with patrons and coworkers at the front desk. Voices travel quite far and clear on the first floor when it is quiet.
- Always use private browsing windows and log out of personal accounts while using the circulation desk computers. These are publicly used computers.
Breaks
- Please take your breaks, they are important!
- Per University policy, every 4 hours you have a 15 min paid break.
- If you are working a shorter or longer amount the break time should be adjusted accordingly.
- Be sure to notify your coworkers when you are leaving to take your break.
