48 Sight Singing Instructions

Major and Minor Scale Triads, Diatonic Leaps, Subdivisions of the Beat

Warm-Up
Take particular care over the aspects of this warm-up that singers typically find hard to sing. For example, the augmented triad – chord III+ – in the minor key. In harmonic minor, many learners struggle with the augmented second between le and ti, so try not to let it take you by surprise in your lesson.

Melody and Rhythm
This assignment builds on the skills from the last sight singing assignment. As you prepare, be sure to review all the possible divisions and subdivisions of your beat note. Examine the melodic leaps to relate them to common chord patterns. Review your solfege of all the chords we have studied so far in these lessons.
